This posterior occlusal modelling instrument is a double-ended composite instrument with a moulded silicone handle. One end has an angled shank ending in a small cupped, scoop-shaped tip with raised sides. The other has a sharply bent shank ending in a small, flat, rounded paddle. It is used to model the biting surface of back teeth in direct composite fillings, shaping the cusps, ridges and grooves so the restoration follows the natural anatomy of the tooth. It suits occlusal modelling techniques sometimes described as the replica or occlusal stamp approach.
- Cupped end for shaping and defining cusp ridges on the biting surface of posterior composites
- Rounded paddle end for carrying and adapting composite and smoothing the occlusal contours before it is cured
- Ergonomic silicone grip, lightweight and comfortable
- AISI 304 stainless steel working ends, fully autoclavable
FAQs
What is this instrument used for?
It is a modelling instrument for composite fillings in premolars and molars. Once the composite is placed, the instrument is used to shape the cusps and ridges and to separate them with grooves, using the remaining cusps of the tooth as a guide. Shaping the anatomy before the composite is cured can reduce the amount of adjustment and finishing needed afterwards.
Why choose a silicone handle?
A moulded silicone handle is wider and lighter than a solid steel one, giving a comfortable, controlled hold through a full day of appointments, and the textured surface helps keep a secure grip.
What material is this instrument made from?
The working ends are AISI 304 stainless steel, set into a moulded silicone handle. Both are fully autoclavable.
Handle colour: choose Orange or Pink. Both are the same instrument; only the handle colour differs.
