DETAILS AND CARE

With a 3.0mm blade, this straight periotome, also known as a luxating elevator, sits in the middle of our width range. It is a straightforward instrument for working down between neighbouring teeth: the blade is slid into the periodontal ligament space and moved along the root to cut the ligament fibres, loosening the tooth ahead of forceps. Working in the ligament space rather than levering against bone helps keep the socket walls intact, which is often the aim before implant placement or socket preservation.

  • 3.0mm straight blade for interproximal work between adjacent teeth
  • Mid-sized width that sits between our 2.0mm and 5.0mm options
  • Straight shank for in-line access where the root can be approached directly
  • Japanese-standard J2 stainless steel working tip
  • PPU handle; sold individually

FAQs

Straight or curved 3.0mm: which do I need?

The straight 3.0mm is commonly chosen for interproximal access where you can reach the root head-on. The curved 3.0mm is often used as a general starting instrument and for following the root around the arch, so the two complement each other.

How is a periotome different from a root elevator?

A root elevator uses leverage to lift the tooth. A periotome has a thinner blade that cuts the ligament attachment with gentle pressure along the root. The two are often used one after the other.

What is it made from?

A Japanese-standard J2 stainless steel working tip set in a PPU handle.

Also available as a 7-piece set: Periotome Luxating Elevator Set.

Part of our extraction range alongside periotomes, root elevators and extraction forceps.
