DETAILS AND CARE

A straight periotome, or luxating elevator, with a 5.0mm blade, the widest of our single-width straight blades. The broader blade gives more contact along larger roots as it is worked into the periodontal ligament space, cutting the ligament fibres to loosen the tooth before forceps are applied. It is typically used between teeth once a narrower blade has started the luxation, and like all periotomes it cuts within the ligament space instead of levering against bone, which helps keep the socket walls intact.

  • Wide 5.0mm straight blade for broader roots and interproximal work
  • Often used after a 2.0mm or 3.0mm blade has opened the ligament space
  • Straight shank for direct, in-line access
  • Japanese-standard J2 stainless steel working tip
  • PPU handle; sold individually

FAQs

Why use a 5.0mm blade?

A wider blade covers more of a broad root surface at each pass. Many clinicians begin with a narrower blade and move up to 5.0mm once the ligament space has been opened.

Straight or curved 5.0mm?

The straight 5.0mm suits interproximal access where the root can be reached directly. The curved 5.0mm is often chosen for large molar roots further back.

Can I lever with it?

No. It is a cutting instrument for the ligament. Use a root elevator for leverage once the tooth is mobile.

Also available as a 7-piece set: Periotome Luxating Elevator Set.

Part of our extraction range alongside periotomes, root elevators and extraction forceps.
