DETAILS AND CARE

Intended for large molar roots, this curved periotome, also called a luxating elevator, has a broad 5.0mm blade. The curve helps the wide blade follow the root surface at the back of the mouth, where straight access is limited, while the extra width covers more of a large root at each pass. The blade is worked into the periodontal ligament space to cut the ligament fibres and loosen the tooth before forceps, cutting within that space rather than pushing against bone.

  • Curved 5.0mm blade for large molar roots and general posterior use
  • Curve follows the root contour where a straight blade is hard to place
  • Often used to continue the luxation after a narrower blade has started it
  • Japanese-standard J2 stainless steel working tip
  • PPU handle; sold individually

FAQs

Which teeth is the curved 5.0mm periotome usually used on?

Mostly larger posterior teeth, particularly molar roots, where both the extra width and the curve are helpful.

Should I start with this size?

Many clinicians begin with a 3.0mm blade to open the ligament space and then move to 5.0mm on broad roots.

What is it made from?

A Japanese-standard J2 stainless steel working tip in a PPU handle. It is designed for cutting the ligament, not for levering.

Also available as a 7-piece set: Periotome Luxating Elevator Set.

Part of our extraction range alongside periotomes, root elevators and extraction forceps.
