DETAILS AND CARE

The Fissura is a double-ended composite modelling instrument with a moulded silicone handle. One end is a long, fine, pointed tip with a gentle curve; the other has a longer shank that bends sharply just behind a small cone-shaped point. It is used for the detailed shaping stage of a layered composite restoration.

  • Fine pointed end for shaping fissures and mamelons, and for placing small amounts of characterisation composite or sealant
  • Cone-shaped end for carving the grooves and cusps of posterior biting (occlusal) surfaces
  • Ergonomic silicone grip, lightweight and comfortable
  • AISI 304 stainless steel working ends, fully autoclavable

FAQs

What is the Fissura used for?

It is a modelling instrument for composite layering. The fine pointed end is used to shape fissures and mamelons in the composite, and to place small amounts of characterisation composite or sealant. The cone-shaped end is used to sculpt the anatomy of the biting (occlusal) surface of posterior teeth, so one instrument covers both jobs.

Why choose a silicone handle?

A moulded silicone handle is wider and lighter than a solid steel one, giving a comfortable, controlled hold through a full day of appointments, and the textured surface helps keep a secure grip.

What material is this instrument made from?

The working ends are AISI 304 stainless steel, set into a moulded silicone handle. Both are fully autoclavable.

Handle colour: choose Green or Pink. Both are the same instrument; only the handle colour differs.

The Fissura is also included in our Composite Filling Instruments Kit (10 Pieces) Silicone Handle.

Manufactured by InstruDental, UK specialists in dental hand instruments.

Colour note: Handle colours may look slightly different in person due to screen brightness, settings and lighting.
